In this post, I look at a few popular TV shows – some past and some current – and the fonts that were chosen for their titles. It’s interesting to see the large number of the classics being used, but also some more modern typefaces and there are certainly a few surprising choices.We used various methods to determine the fonts that were being used, however, it was not always possible to establish full accuracy and in such cases a close alternative was listed.

Below a just a few US TV shows (plus one UK show…) with the corresponding font. This is always fun to return to your computer word processor programs and find the font [sometimes] listed and realise that you may have never noticed it before.


The font used is Clicker

Desperate Housewives

The fonts used are Swiss 721 Black Extended and something like Didot Headline


Here the font is Soda Script Bold – plus a bit of blood, sweat and tears!


Glam up with ITC Avant Garde Gothic…

Grey’s Anatomy

Swiss 911 Ultra Compressed is used here.


House uses Futura Futuris Medium

How I Met Your Mother

The font here is FF Dax


Impact is used here.

Mad Men

The font here is Swiss 721 Heavy

The Mentalist

The classy classic Helvetica (Neue Medium) is used here.

Modern Family

Another Helvetica, this time 35 thin plus Didot Roman.


The simple Eurostile Extended is used here.

The Office

Here they used ITC American Typewriter


Seinfeld uses ITC Fenice Oblique font


The font used for Weeds is Centurion

30 Rock

30 Rock uses ITC Blair Light font

and finally…. Dad’s Army

Dads Army

The slightly dated ‘Cooper Black’. Don’t mention Easy Jet!
